The Keep Wales Tidy Campaign was established in 1972 with Welsh Office funding. It began life as the Welsh Directorate of the Tidy Britain Group with its own Consultative Committee made up of representatives from voluntary, public and private sector organisations within Wales.
The Committee was chaired by a number of illustrious individuals such as Lord Parry of Neyland, Robert Robinson, Lord Elis-Thomas of Nant Conwy and Rhiannon Bevan OBE.
In 2000, Keep Wales Tidy began a process of devolution from the Tidy Britain Group, Environmental Campaigns Ltd, and established itself as a separate Company Limited by Guarantee with Charitable Status and its own Board of Trustees chaired by Rhiannon Bevan.
In 2005, this process of devolution led to the creation of Keep Wales Tidy as an independent organisation working towards achieving a clean, safe and tidy Wales. Although we have no formal ties with our sister organisations, we do meet regularly with Keep Scotland Beautiful, Tidy Northern Ireland and Keep Britain Tidy. In addition, we have a good relationship with An Taisca from the Republic of Ireland and organisations from around the World through the Foundation for Environmental Education and Clean-Up the World.
